MMP-LMHS

A great need has been identified in the production of conductor coils and windings designed and built to make use of electricity in applications ranging from electric motors on ships to generators in wind turbines to MRI machines in hospitals. Machines that form windings from copper have created a fantastic world of electromagnetic technology that few could grasp living without. Even though materials have been discovered during the past 100 years that far outperform the electrical conductivity properties of copper, very little technology utilizing these advantages has made it into our lives. Vision at Infinity Physics aims to introduce technology enabling use of these new materials. This vision is shared and supported by the NSF by funding our efforts through a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant. Across the globe, advances from using Infinity Physics winding capabilities could significantly reduce the cost of medical procedures, reduce the cost of supplied electricity, and increase the energy density of electric machines.

Linear Media Handling System (LMHS) turns a historically coarse manual process into a precise automated system for wire and tape winding designs from R&D to manufacturing. In both the short and long term the LMHS solution is the best financial cost to reliable, precise, functional capability and option rich, versatile, and automated solution on the market. Multipurpose Modular Platform (MMP) provides a building block approach to designing a winding system with a scope that can include integrated operations such as insulating, braiding, splicing, or forming. The MMP aluminum extrusion structure allows for easy customization in size from capacities defined in the standard systems above. This provides versatility that is not found in industry standard purpose built machines.

The SC industry requires a technically reliable wire and tape handling solution for common to delicate linear media that completes the SC production steps for both Research and Development (R&D) and Manufacturing as shown below. Without the enabling LMHS technology all final application users are extremely hesitant in moving forward with the latest promising SC wire and tape technologies having no confidence in the final product technical reliability. MMP-LMHS solves this global industrial need for this significant technology development in an automated and versatile fashion and has patent protected the intellectual properly surrounding LMHS innovations.
