A Power Conditioning System (PCS) must provide efficient conversion of output voltage Vac to Vdc or in some cases Vac to Vac depending at a set power quality required for final load use or storage. Focusing initially on the Vdc requirement for a motor/generator application, more modern rectifier topologies rely upon switch mode operation. Switch mode power converters are good devices for wave shaping with a compact system yet by design they introduce harmonic losses. Harmonics will remain a concern with switch mode power converters until topologies are developed that allow a high switching frequency without power transfer loss. Efficient switch mode converters are also far more versatile yet complex than analog converters in order to precisely control the gate switching. Such harmonics and control complexities are not prevalent in older analog bridge rectified devices which operate passively. Yet these older devices are larger and heavier primarily due to large inductive elements. They are also typically only used for a set limited operational range which is often the desired operation of most converters. The Infinity Physics full wave bridge rectified power supply (BRPS™) with output analog filtration is designed to provide a middle ground solution between modern switch mode and older analog power converters when a set output is desired. The Infinity Physics LMHS™ winding machine allows winding compact inductors into advanced geometries which lowers the overall size and mass of BRPS™ over more historic analog power converters. A DC side output LC filter will assure output power smoothing with a focus on efficiency in a compact system over response times. The output inductor is sized to choke any high current transients whereas the capacitor is sized to supply a continuous Vdc output yet also have the ancillary aspect of providing voltage isolation. For a higher range of controllability the option of active transistor bridges over fully passive diodes are integrated to allow for greater efficiency through a judicious controller methodology. When desired, an output voltage-doubler can be easily used to step up voltage without a step up transformer or equivalent.
The BRPS™ topology provides a high efficiency system in a compact size for a set or controllable operational bandwidth.
